Website not working?

Below you can see straight away whether there is a known fault. Under that is what you can check yourself, and the log of what broke recently, for how long, and what we changed about it.

No known faults.

Everything we host is working right now. If your site still is not working, it is probably something else. Look below, or get in touch.

First aid

What you can check yourself.

Five things it almost always is, and what to do about them. Nothing works? Call us and we will look with you.

My website is not working. What now?

First hard-refresh the page (Ctrl+F5, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac), then try it on your phone over 4G instead of wifi. If it works there, the problem is your internet connection or your browser, not the site. If it works nowhere, check above for a known fault and call us if none is listed.

My site is unreachable or I get an error message.

Write down exactly what is on your screen (a 404, a 500, a warning about the security certificate) and whether it happens on every page or on one. That difference decides where we start looking, so it really saves time if you mention it when you call.

A warning appears that the connection is not secure.

Usually the security certificate has expired or has just been renewed and your browser still has the old version. Hard-refresh and try another device. If the warning stays, call us straight away: we renew certificates automatically, so if one has expired we want to know.

I cannot send or receive email.

Check whether it also goes wrong in webmail or only in your mail program or phone. Only in the program means the settings or the password are wrong. In webmail too means it is on our side, and we would like to hear about it.

My changes are not showing on the site.

Check that you actually saved and published the change; a draft stays invisible to visitors. If that is right and you still cannot see it, hard-refresh, because your browser keeps pages for a while. After that it is up to us.

Log

What broke, and for how long.

Everything we noticed, even if nobody else noticed anything.

Nothing in the log yet. That does not mean nothing ever breaks; it means that since we started keeping track, nothing has happened that was worth writing down.

Still broken?

Call or email us. You do not have to figure out whose fault it is. We do that.
